PLEASE... NO AUTOGRAPHS

I am excited to announce the following news...

The Princess will be famous!

I will be featured in a new book coming out about rescued Great Danes.

Yep, mommy submitted my story and I got chosen along with a lot of other rescued Danes.

Even my foster brother for a short time, Pedley, will get mentioned in the book.

I am honored to be selected and want to thank...

All my blog friends for inspiring mommy to write

Mommy and Daddy for rescuing me

And Boy Wonder and Ms. T for saving me so mommy and daddy found me

Thank you, thank you... hold the applause

BARK! Sasha the Princess

Note from mommy: What "ms humble" meant to say is that we are excited to be picked among so many other rescued dogs. Please excuse her royal "snobyness" comments. She will still be eating the same dryfood after the book comes out in June. Sales of Happy Tails will support many dog rescues. There are many to choose from if you decide to purchase a book.

WHAT IS DADDY DOING?

Daddy came home smelling funny. Then I found the evidence!

Meet Sadie!
Note from mommy: My friend got a new kitten and I had to go welcome her home. Sadie was playing and playing for almost 2 hours as my friend and I visited. She would come to me on occasion and chase a toy I teased her with, then she would go play on her own. As soon as Scott came in to pick me up, she made a friend. Sadie loved Scott instantly (all cats do!). I had to remind him he was petting a kitten, not a great dane, after she ran away from him a couple times. As soon as he settled down, she was all over him. It was quite cute to see the big hands holding this tiny little kitten, and petting her to sleep. Awwwwww... makes me want another one!

Here Kitty Kitty...

Mommy somehow got a kitty into her puter...

Turn up loud to hear with human ears! Mommy says Max did the same thing when he first heard our kitty, before she went over rainbow bridge.

BATHING BEAUTY!

The water stopped falling from the sky and lots of wind is blowing. It brings lots of smells to my territory, so I had to go out and sniff them all, and enjoy the warm dirt! Note from mommy: Oh, when I saw this my heart strings were tugged. I know this is my heart speaking, and not my head. When Max was sick, he would go into this corner and lay in the sun, just like Sasha is doing in the picture. There is still an indentation in the dirt where he laid (the arrow is pointing to it). This morning, Sasha just got up and went out the open door on her own (very rare if we are not in the yard ourselves). When I went looking for her, she was sniffing in this spot, then pawed it a bit, then settled down. At first, I thought she was actually laying in the Max's spot, but when I went to take a picture, I noticed she was next to it. My heart has healed, but there is still a HUGE soft spot there, and a tear or two escaped. Man, I miss that guy! I guess Sasha does too!

My Name

Do you doggies ever wonder where your name came from? Well, mommy sat me down the other day and explained how SASHA came about.

She said that her and daddy had already decided they wanted to find a big fawn doggie and a girl would be perfect. But they couldnt decide on a name. They said hoomans have the same problem with baby hoomans, only they cant pick all the specifics like mommy and daddy were trying to do. Mommy said ZENA, was a name she had tried out. She said Zena was a Warrior Princess. Hmmm, that name would have fit me too. But daddy said no. She doesnt much remember what other names were thought about.

Then the night before they were going to go to the rescue to pick me out, Mommy had daddy watch a favorite movie of hers when she was a little girl. Daddy had never seen it before.

It was called Peter & The Wolf. It was about a little Russan boy who decided to go on a hunt, with his pet friends and ended up being chased by a Wolf. When it got to the part of Sasha the bird, mommy jumped up and said "THAT'S IT! SASHA!" Daddy liked it too, so they had my name prepared for me before they met me.

Mommy says most hoomans name doggies after they get them, and get to know their personality, but in this case, they were so excited to get a doggie, they couldnt wait that long.

When I came out to meet them, Mrs T. told them my name was Phoebe. Mommy knew it had to be changed, or she would always think of a tall skinny blond girl. Mommy also says most doggies pick out their own families, but I just gave them the privilage of letting them pet me, and pretended to not be too interested. Mommy wasnt too sure about getting a doggie that wasnt excited about going home with them, but they decided to bring me home anyway.
I was pretty mellow until I saw their kitty, and immediatly started pursuing Spike around the house, causing quite a stir, until she got put away in her own room. A couple weeks after I came to live with them, we went for our first walk. I was sneaky, and slipped out of the collar, and led daddy on a chase down the alley's, barking at all the other doggies behind the fences. That scared mommy to death. Then daddy finally tackled me when I slowed down. He quickly learned, I slow down in about 10 minutes. Mommy was afraid of me for a week or so, because I was so big, but after that, her and I fell in looooovveee. I would lay in her lap on the couch (they used to let me do that) and then just stare up into her eyes.

Oh, look at the Princess getting carried away again. I just wanted to share how I got my name. So if your mommy wants to see Sasha the Bird, watch this video and start at the 2 minute mark. The bird is pretty tough, so I guess I lived up to my name!

WHAT'S IS "IT"?

I have smelled "it"!

I have seen "it" at night!

I have barked at "it", when it scampered over the fence!

I knew "it" was around!

But we never had proof of "it" until...
TODAY!!
While I was sleeping, mommy caught "it" in the act.

(can you see "it"?)

Lazy EEEEKSTER Sunday

Mommy brought Gramma home with them on Sunday. They said it was an extra special Sunday, called Eeekster. They said that the sun had risen over 2000 years ago on this extra special day. I didnt get what the big deal was, because the sun rises EVERYDAY here. But then mommy said it was not the sun in the sky, but THE Son that leads her and daddy's life. She said when they close their eyes and look down, they are talking to The Son. I see them do that a lot, but didnt know what it meant. So while mommy stayed in the yummy room making treats, me and gramma and daddy closed our eyes and talked to the Son. At least, that is what I think they were doing!

REPORTING ERROR

Mommy made me get back on the puter to ensure everyone that I am NOT (did you read that, NOT!) being ignored. Her and daddy have made a point to play catch and tug with me everyday with my tuggy toy. That is on top of my morning walkies and sniffies. As evidence of my royal spoildom, here it is:

Each night before mommy goes to bed, she gets me settled and covers me with this comfy blanket. If she does not do this, I will pace around the lair, making clicking noises with my paws, until someone comes and tucks me me. Daddy told mommy she was spoiling me, but then shortly after, dad came out to tuck me in. He finally realized this is what it takes for me to go to sleepies the same time they go to the masters lair.

Lots of stuff...

Daddy got a new lair on wheels. Mommy says daddy looks HOT now. But it has been cold outside lately, so I dont think daddy is too hot right now.

Mommy had a bark day. Her mommy sent her a box to open, so mommy said she needed help from the princess opening it. I got my nose right in there...
and ripped the paper right out. I sure did. I was a great help to mommy!

But I dont understand why she laughed so hard. She kept laughing and laughing, so I had to help her some more. "Come on Mommy, open your treat!"

I tried to smell the goodness of it, but there was no yummy smell. Hoomans get the boryest treats!
"What is in mommy? Something to carry MY treats in?"

Later daddy was trying to do some "hunee doo" stuff for mommy. But I wanted to play!
Daddy and me had a bark off!
Then he finally gave in and played with me.

But I fell down and didnt want to play anymore. So I just watched daddy work.
I had a fun weekend. Daddy said he will have to take me for a ride in his new lair.

In Memory of...

ZEUS
A doggy of my mommys bestest friend, who lives in washing town, crossed the Rainbow Bridge yesterday. Before I came along, Zeus and Thor were the biggest doggies my mommy ever played with. When she visted her friend, Kat, for her wedding, they sniffed mommy to death, and then woke her every morning with sniffie sounds coming under the door. When mommy opened the door, they would pounce on her and give her wet noses. Here is a pic of mommy visiting Zeus and his big brother Thor.
Her and daddy went and visited washing town after they got married, and daddy fell in love with Zues and his new sister. Mommys friend Kat fosters Boxers and is the one that encouraged mommy and daddy to foster us big doggies too.
This is the note from Zeus's mommy:
Today my old Zeus crossed the rainbow. He was my son, my friend, my heart, and soul. He greeted every day happy and ready love unconditionally. I will miss him way too much. He goes to meet his big brother Thor and his best big kitty sister Hannah, as well as many of the foster dogs that have passed through our doors. He leaves behind little sister Freya, little brother Baulder, and his loving parents Jason and Kathy, plus many extended family that will miss him terribly.

Zeus taught every dog that came to live with us that stuffed animals where the best toys to play with. You could play with them, but in the end, they were all his.
This is mommy and her bestest friend Kat, the day before Kats wedding.

Good bye Zeus. Say Hi to Max and Mr Darcy. Make sure Max doesnt confuse you for me, with your pretty coloring and all.

What is mommy doing?

Mommy says that since she doesnt have to drive to a boss anymore, then she needs to become her own boss. She says she will start bossing herself around. I dont understand, but she is acting weird again. She pushes all the furniture around, then moves the soft floor away. Then she stands in front of the sqauare box and starts jumping up and down, and moving all over the place. She did this when Max was here, and it scared both of us. We thought she was hurt, so we circled and barked at her to wake her up. This seemed to make her mad and she made us go lay down. So now I just layed down and kept a close eye on her.
She said she is doing zoomies. This doesnt look like zoomies to me.

It makes me a little scared because sometimes she comes aweful close to stepping on me.

Watch out mommy!

What the heck...?

Mommy got the bright idea from some guy named BRUTUS to put this green thing on my paw. She said it will help my pawnail to not drag and then make red stuff come out of it.I was mildly curous as she put it on, after that, I didnt feel a thing. Hmmm, that is odd. But it does make a funny sound when I walk fast or run. Sort of like "thwack, thwack, thwack". So far no holes.

BARK! Sasha the Princess

Note from mommy: These are called PAWZ. Our friend Moose directed us to Brutus to check out how they work. I did a local search and only found 2 pet shops carrying them, both almost an hour away. Fortunatly, I was going to be in the vicinity of one of those special shops, so pouring rain and all, I ran in and bought their LAST Giant size, only color of green. They came in a package of 12 for only $12.95. Not bad. Plus there was a Barkery on site, so Sasha got a nice fancy decorated biscuit too (What I won't do for my Princess girl)! The sales clerk said they have been selling like crazy. I wonder if Brutus is advertising to everyone? We live 1/2 hour from the Southern California Mountains, which are full of snow right now, so I can assume this is the reason for the "hot cake" selling. Sasha doesnt even notice it on her paw, and it has kept her nail from being shaved and bleeding. So far no holes in the boot. It feels like a thick balloon, like a punching balloon. It stretches wide, to insert over the paw, then tightens back up, with enough give to not stop circulation. Excited to see how long each one lasts. Oh, and if you want some exitement, be sure to check out Brutus's blog with his boots. FUUUUUNNY!!!

PS- Thank you everyone for your input. I am on the way to convincing hubby to prepare for another vet bill to at least see what we may be dealing with. We currently have her on glucosamine-chrondritin. It has not been quite a month yet, so waiting also to see if that helps. We will keep you posted- Love Sasha's Mommy

I got an Owie

My back legs dont work so well these days. One of them is a bit sore and doesnt want to move as well as the other ones, so I drag my toes a bit. This has caused my pawnails to be very short and sometimes red stuff comes out. During our walk it wouldnt stop coming out. So mommy came home, cleaned it up and then put hooman clothes on me again. I still dont get it, but I do know mommy is loving me.
It is a bit hard to walk with this clothe on me, so it is easier just to lay down until mommy says the red has stopped and takes it off my paw. So I was just a good girl and meditated while waiting.Mommy also took me to the place where they stick stuff in my skin. Mommy says it is called vacations, but it didnt seem as much fun as our last vacation. While we were at that place, someone played with my pawnails. He made the front ones a lot shorter. I didnt like it too much and kept trying to pull away from him. He told mommy that she needs to file and play with my paws more, so I can get used to it again and then we will go back a couple more times, to get my nails made a lot shorter. Mommy is so glad she finally found someone that knows how to care for the big dog nails. So here is mommy giving me a pawdicure. Daddy says I am way too spoiled. BARK! Sasha the Princess

Note from mommy: I am getting more and more concerned about Sasha's back leg. We hesitate going the vet route, as we know it is going to be a lot of expenses. She is almost 10, old for a big gal, but besides her leg, she is still going fine. And it doesnt seem to slow her down. I am sure she has arthritis or the signs of hip dysplasia. When we run, she just keeps her back legs together and does sort of a jump, which seems to be more comfortable for her, than just walking. That leg sort of twists when she walks, almost like a bow-legged cowboy. Just yesterday I heard a clicking sound, which terrified me. I am not ready to lose her. I have made her walks shorter and shorter, however her leg seems to drag more, causing the nails to be filed to the quick on the sidewalks. I wonder is there is such a thing as a "nail cover"? Has anyone heard of them? I am also wondering if getting the boots that the snow doggies have, would work? The sock doesnt stay on very well, when we leave the house. Does any other doggie mamma's have opionions? With me out of work, we hesitate toward the expensive route right now. Not prepared to make a touch decision yet.

A New Friend

BARK! Before you furries out there start thinking I am allowing another doggie into my lair... think again....BARK!

This is Mr Darcy's family's new doggie. You may remember Mr Darcy followed my brother Max to Rainbow Bridge last year. Well, Mr Darcy's family didnt have another doggie like my mommy and daddy did, which left HUUUUGGGEE hole was left in their heart (Us big doggies leave really really big holes everywhere). So when Mr Darcy's mommy heard about another doggie that needed a forever home, they decided to open their hearts again and welcomed DIGBY! Digby looks like he may be a mix of Mastiff and Labrador, but what we know for sure is that he has a FOREVER home now! Digby has had a rough past so we think everyone's heart will be healed with this match.

Digby will never replace Mr Darcy, but he will create a new love in his new family's heart. As soon as Digby gets settled in, his new mommy may help him with a blog, but for now, we wanted to introduce him and stay WELCOME TO YOUR NEW WONDERFUL LIFE, DIGBY!

BARK! Sasha the Princess

P.S. Mommy corrected me by reminding me that all doggies and kitty's leave the same size holes in hoomans hearts. It is the size of the heart that matters, not the size of the kitty or doggie. Sorry all you furries, I got carried away again. BARK!

Daddy Loves Mommy!

Lots of water was falling from the sky for a long time. If the water wasnt coming down in the morning, mommy would let me run next to her on the wheels. But on the days when daddy was suppose to take me out, the water just kept coming down. So I just meditated all day. Yesterday, when we woke up the bright light in the sky was out, so last night, mommy took me out for sniffies and a good run. This morning mommy and I agreed that the sky is barkaful! And we can see all kinds of white stuff on the mounds that surround our territory. Mommy says it is a good thing that white stuff is far away, or we wouldnt be able to go anywhere. My friend Kasha had to wear funny boots to go out potty in the white stuff. I dont think I would be happy with that.

We have a tree in our yard that grows yellow balls. When the water was falling from the sky real hard, mommy decided to keep gramma busy, but having her squeeze all the yellow balls to make a refreshment for them. So mommy talked daddy into getting wet and bringing in a lot of yellow balls for them. Daddy asked "Are you crazy?" Mommy said "Well, do YOU have anything for gramma to do to keep her busy?" So out he went. I was worried, so I followed him out, but then saw how bad the water was coming down. So I stayed in the dry area and kept an eye on him.

Daddy also told me that with all the water falling from the sky, my big water bowl is starting to overflow. I dont think I will EVER be able to drink ALL that water!

DOGGIES FLYING?

Mommy read about a new venture this week. She thinks it is an AWESOME idea. She said Hoomans started long time ago by making a wood house for furries, then they started making cars for furries, now they make PLANES for furries!!!
Our friend Big Honey just went on a plane ride too, but we are not sure if it was as pawsome as this new plane. But we do know she was taken care of very good. Now us US furries can travel first class too!

Mommy is getting Younger...

Im not too sure about what is going on with mommy. Last week she actually put wheels on her PAWS! I didnt get to see it myself, but the evidence showed up on the flashy. And whatever happened after that, made her come home with all happy excitement.
She said all the hoomans put wheels on their paws and then drive around in circles over and over. Sometimes they back up too. I dont get it. It doesnt look like they have anything to sniff. But she did smell pretty odd when she came home. Daddy said he was smart and didnt put wheels on his paws. He only likes wheels under his tail.
After the wheel incident, mommy said I need to get some vitamins in me, so she can wheel with me too. Gramma suggested this to mommy, so she said she will try it for 4 weeks to see if turns me into SUPER RUNNING DOG!
So now, mommy wants to be on wheels all the time! She pulled the white 2 wheeled monster out of the lair and I get to go for runnies with her. Oh, I miss this so much. We havent run since before Max got cans her.
Mommy even let go of the rope and let me run free next to her. I showed her what a good doggie I was, and stayed right next to her... well, a few sniffies got in the way, but I was close to her still.

I was pretty tuckered when we got home. I havent excersized like this for a long time. Mommy said we will only go a little bit at a time.

Well, mommy said I now have to go do my meditations before I can have breakfast. So BARK for now!

MAX MEMORIES

I dont understand, but mommy said the hoomans would. Now, I remember Max this way. But...

Mommy say's this is Max too. For awhile she would cry everytime she looked at this. She said Max was in there. I don't think he can fit into that little box?

Mommy said a little part of Max was here too. Now, I just know mommy is getting a little crazy, because Max was WAY too big to be part of this! But I knew for sure when she told me Max was here too. "Mommy, that is a TREE!. I think you need to get your eye's checked!"
Note from mommy: Max is still missed greatly. I am so thankful my heart finally healed. I can look at his pictures without crying. Procrastinating long enough, we finally spread his ashes through out the yard and at the special place in the park we went to every day while he was sick. Some of his ashes were also mixed with the cememt for the memory stone, so it can go with us, if we ever leave this house.
Rest in Peace Max! We miss you!

FUN AT GRAMMI AND GRAMPI's

After all the unwrapping was done, I had a good time playing with everyone with my toy's. I really got comfy at Grammi's lair. Finally, it was time for me to give mommy her present. When she wasnt expecting it, I gave her my belly. It made her smile real big. Grammi and grampi enjoyed the gift too. I saw a new thing. Mommy took dishes and put them in a big box at my level. Then she said i could help her clean them before she shut the door. There were lots of yummy things to clean. I have never seen one of these magic boxes before. I told mommy I want one and she said she would like one too. Then we both gave Daddy the "eyes".
Here I am having a chat with daddy about trying to get me and mommy the magic box for the yummy room. I think i was pretty convincing.

Then on the other box that Grammi and grampi watch all the time, a BIG BIG doggy appeared. It was TITAN!! How did he get into that box? He is very handsome. Mommy and daddy were saying he is the BIGGEST dog in the world and he lives an hour away from our territory.

Grammi and Grampi are regular cowboys and dames. They go and pretend in front of other hoomans. We went to their practice and I got to watch too. When I saw a cowboy get hurt and fall down, I got very concerned. When the cowboy that hurt him walked by, I started to growl at him for being bad. Daddy had to tell me that they were just playing and no one was really hurt. Still I kept an eye on that big guy with the tall hat!
There was white cold stuff on the ground while we were there. So mommy took me for a little walk in it. Here is my big paw print. Mommy thought it looked pretty.
Then we went to my fur cuzins house. My aunt told me they had to nap while I was there, but I got to play with their toys, while daddy did some work for my aunt. Mommy forgot her flashy, but Auntie Shelly ALWAYS has her flashy out, so you have to go here to see what kind of fin I had with the furry cuzins toy. Oops, sorry cuzins.
Finally it came time for us to head back to our own territory and lair. I got lovins from Grammi and Grampi. Something happened to the picture of Grammi, but here is Grampi saying goodbye to his grand-dog.
Bye Grammi and Grampi. BARK! Sasha the Princess
